A little sky knowledge
The northern lights
in Sweden.
The northern part of Sweden sits much closer to the usual auroral oval than Stockholm or the south. A national view helps show that difference. During stronger activity the band can extend southward, but the pattern changes from one observation to the next.
Swedish Lapland includes both towns and wide mountain landscapes. Use the country map to get oriented, then open a destination page to bring that area into focus.

Model and forecast explanation: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
Where should I start with the northern lights in Sweden?
Abisko and Kiruna are useful starting points in the northern auroral zone. Their destination pages center the same activity layer on each area so you can compare the current pattern.
When is the northern lights season in Sweden?
Autumn to early spring. This is a guide to the darker part of the year, not a prediction for a particular night. Aurora activity changes throughout the year.
How far ahead does the map forecast?
NOAA’s OVATION product provides a short-term outlook, typically around 30–90 minutes depending on solar wind conditions. It is not a forecast for the whole night. Check the forecast timestamp and return for a fresh reading.
